Guide to microphone hire for events and parties

The audio set-up for your event is an important consideration, and that includes the microphone hire. You may have been considering whether or not you even need a microphone! As a guide, we recommend investing in a microphone for any event of around 20 guests onwards. Whilst 20 may not seem like that many, with background music and so many people have separate conversations, it can be difficult to cut through the crowd.

The next thing to consider, is what type of microphone you need, and what the audio set-up will be.

If it's only a few simple speeches, with one person talking to a small group, an amp and cord microphone should suffice. Corded microphones have about 2 to 3 metres available of cord, however you will need to be plugged in at all times and consider the area.

The microphone will be plugged into the speaker, so you'll also have to take this into consideration with your audio set-up.

Even if you opt for a cordless microphone, you'll still need to consider the sound system as wireless mics only work as far as 10 to 20 metres range. You'll also need to connect the microphone to a mixer and then a speaker, so consider power connection, extension cords and the floor layout for this.
